Where to Find the Best Hotel Brunch and Bloody Marys in San Diego
Best Hotel Brunch and Bloody Marys in San Diego
Living in a vacation destination means tourism and hospitality is one of the biggest industries in San Diego. That’s why it is no surprise that San Diego has hundreds, if not thousands of hotels that aren’t only great for tourists to stay at but for locals to dine and play. There are so many great restaurants in San Diego hotels that offer brunch and bloody marys.
With so many options, I’ve searched high and low for not only great ambiance but stellar brunch and bloody marys. This guide is to help save you from the overpriced and bland that you can typically find in touristy locations. Here’s where to find the best hotel brunch and bloody marys in San Diego:
Tidal - Paradise Point Resort and Spa
Sail away to the tropical islands of Hawaii at Tidal at the Paradise Point Resort. Lush gardens, palms trees and epic views of Mission Bay make Tidal the perfect place to brunch and enjoy Hawaiian inspired dishes like the Malted Tahitian Vanilla Waffle with roasted pineapple honey butter and the Egg Foo Yung Shrimp Omelet smothered in a shiitake gravy.
Coming soon to brunch at Tidal are brand new bloody marys that I had the pleasure of tasting recently. Whether you love freshly made garden bloody marys, Asian-inspired seafood garnished bloody marys, or want to shake things up a bit with a bacon bourbon bloody mary, Tidal may have something for you. You’ll have to have brunch there yourself to find out what bloody marys they added to the menu!
Luca - The Guild Hotel
Originally an Armed Services YMCA from the 1920s the historic building was reimagined and opened in 2019 as the Guild Hotel, downtown San Diego. Luca, the Guild’s Mediterranean inspired restaurant serves up sophisticated yet relaxing vacation vibes, in true San Diego fashion. Luca’s Riviera-style courtyard coupled with their incredibly savory and refreshing from-scratch bloody mary makes Luca the perfect day dining experience.
Luca’s from-scratch bloody mary goes perfectly with chef Chef Justin Vaiciunas Mediterranean brunch with options ranging from healthy dishes like the Always Sunny to seafood dishes like the Seafood Roll. Start your brunch off right with the Mr. Figgy made with pistachio dust (I am a sucker for anything pistachio) roasted red peppers, fig jam, and whipped goat cheese or entree it up with the Crab It Up, blue crab cake with Nueske bacon, poached eggs, and a drool-worthy society sauce.
JRDN - Tower 23 Hotel
Located beachside in the Tower 23 Hotel, JRDN has one of the best brunches and bloody mary in Pacific Beach, not just at a hotel. The bloody mary is refined and graceful and JRDN uses cilantro and jalapeños to infuse the vodka. It’s not too spicy, light and refreshing, which is perfect for those beach days! Sit on the patio and soak up some sunshine while you sip your classy beverage. If you’re more of a beer lover, their michelada is also killer!
You’ll find some of the best chilaquiles in San Diego at JRDN in the Tower 23 Hotel, along with enormous sweet and savory sticky buns fresh out of the oven that are great for sharing with a group. If you’re looking for protein then order the Short Rib Hash with braised beef short ribs, eggs, and a pepper jack fondue…. can you say BrunchFaced?
Vessel Restaurant + Bar - Kona Kai Resort + Spa
Beach, breeze, bloody…. mary bar. Vessel Restaurant + Bar nestled in the Kona Kai Resort & Spa, build your own bloody mary bar has some unique garnishes that you don’t typically see such as capers, baby corn, mushrooms, and watermelon rinds. It’s nice to see some different options on a BYOBMB! The best part about the bloody mary bar is that it’s BOTTOMLESS!! Drink, season, and garnish to your heart's desire!
If you’re into ocean breezes and marina views coupled with live acoustic music for brunch, then Vessel at the Kona Kai Resort and Spa will not let you down. For morning risers choose the Chile Relleno with queso fresco, nueske bacon, salsa roja, and black beans. More in the mood for lunch, devour the crazy good grilled fish tacos with Baja slaw, guacamole, pico de Gallo, Chile aioli, and corn tortillas.
The Med - La Valencia Hotel
Find four stellar bloody marys at The Med restaurant situated inside the “pink lady” aka La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla. One of the best bloody marys in La Jolla combined with million-dollar views of the Pacific Ocean make La Valencia’s bloody mary menu too good to pass up. My pick is the Bayou Bloody Mary with a fried oyster and jumbo shrimp on top! Feeling a little sassy? Go for the Bloody Maria with tequila!
If fresh seafood for brunch is your jam, then you’re in luck at the La Valencia Hotel! The Local Lobster Benedict, Baja Shrimp Chilaquiles, or the Blue Fin Crab Cake will surely satisfy the seafood lovers’ cravings. Looking for something lighter before you hit the beach? Nosh on a Kale and Goat Cheese Frittata, Avocado Toast or a ‘Bloody” Caesar Salad.
The Nolen Rooftop - Courtyard Marriott San Diego/Gaslamp
You’re probably sensing a pattern here…. but, do you love blue skies, unbelievable views, and great food and drinks? Look no further than the 14th-floor rooftop destination bar on top of the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, The Nolen, for “The Sunday Requirement.” With a diverse menu of four bloody marys with unique spins on the traditional recipe, my favorites are the Sunday Morning Remedy or Penelope. Breath in the fresh air and sip away your hangover with your brunch squad, sex in the city-style!
Although there is a limited brunch menu at The Nolen, you can’t go wrong with any of the dishes. Carnitas Benedict on top of soft a delicious polenta cake and the decadent Chocolate Stuffed Croissant French Toast are two of my top picks, that’ll have you singing from the rooftops, literally!
Le Fontainebleau Room - The Westgate Hotel
The Le Fontainebleau Room and The Westgate Hotel invite you to “dine in beauty”. Crystal chandeliers, large and bright floral arrangements, a live jazz piano player, and a tuxedoed server who walks around filling your champagne glasses will truly make you feel like royalty. The Westgate Hotel’s brunch buffet includes bottomless mimosas and bloody marys that are simple but tasty and you can get a head start in the parlor while you wait for your table!
The brunch buffet at The Westgate Hotel has an incredible amount of selections ranging from charcuterie and salads, an Asian station, eggs and crepes stations, seafood station, and an entree station that includes decadent dishes such as Asian baby back ribs with kimchi, lamb cheeks with Merguez sausage, and a bay scallops pot pie. My personal favorites are the sushi, bloody mary oyster shooters, prime rib, made-to-order omelets and the entire ROOM full of desserts!
The Shores Restaurant - La Jolla Shores Hotel
Sip your bloody mary where the surf meets the sand at The Shores Restaurant inside the La Jolla Shores Hotel. Relax and enjoy the view as you imbibe with their delicious and spicy house-made bloody mary with siracha vodka or bloody Maria with tequila or mezcal. If bubbles are more your thing, enjoy a vibrant and fresh mimosa flight!
A lavish and seasonal brunch menu of fresh and sustainable seafood options by Chef de Cuisine Percy Oani includes the wild shrimp pappardelle in a rich chardonnay sauce or the ahi tuna poke with furikake wontons. Up early? Any of the omelets or benedicts will please your breakfast palate. You won’t find brunch and bloody mary any closer to the sand than The Shores Restaurant at the La Jolla Shores Hotel!
MaryJane’s Diner - Hard Rock Hotel
Take a step back in time at the retro MaryJane’s Diner at The Hard Rock Hotel. Listen to classic tunes with a sense of nostalgia as you customize your own bloody mary! That’s right, you can fill out a card to build your own bloody mary just the way you like from choosing the mix, liquor, and garnishes. If you know me, then you know I recommend getting all the fixings and MaryJane’s house-made spicy mix!
You won’t find any lavish or decadent dishes at MaryJanes at The Hard Rock Hotel but what you will find is great food, exceptional service, and the best value of any downtown hotel brunches! American-style with a regional twist, I recommend the juicy Breakfast Burger, Slammin’ Hamwich or the Carne Asada Omelet.
Sally’s Fish House + Bar - Manchester Grand Hyatt
Sally’s Fish House is sophisticated seafood with picturesque views of the Seaport Village Harbor and home of the Ultimate Bloody Mary at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. Apart of Sally’s “Insta-worthy” cocktail list, the Ultimate Bloody Mary is a refreshing and herbaceous bloody mary mixed with cucumber vodka and topped with a seafood lover’s delight! An exquisite piece of blackened shrimp and a foot-long king crab leg make this bloody mary a sea-inspired meal in a glass! Available #alldayeveryday
Sally’s Fish House + Bar doesn’t offer brunch but has one of the very best bloody marys in San Diego, not just at a hotel. You can read more about dining at Sally’s by reading HERE.
