El Jardin Cantina, Liberty Station

Liberty Station is one of my favorite places in San Diego! From all the great restaurants, shops, and the Liberty Public Market, anytime I visit I can stay for hours! Recently, a new restaurant to grab some affordable brunch and bloody marys opened in Liberty Station, so you know I had to check it out!
El Jardin Cantina is incredibly affordable and the brunch is super delicious, which makes it the perfect place to bring the whole family. Between the brunch and bloody marys, do you need any more reason to visit El Jardin?
Brunch
The brunch food at El Jardin is fabulous. All the dishes are light and full of flavor and priced just right. For this brunch, I brought along my husband so we could spend some time together after a crazy week!
Coming off being sick, I wanted to have something familiar and light, so I went with the Huevos Rancheros. I don’t know how they make their chipotle salsa, but it was probably my favorite part of the dish! I’m also a sucker for anything chipotle flavored so already winning in my book! Many dishes come with a side of olla beans and El Jardin cooks them to perfection and gets the flavor just right. My husband ordered a benedict and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the sopas they came on….so much better than a hard as a rock biscuit!
If you still have room for a sweet treat at the end of your meal, the tres leches is the perfect dish to share. Made with three-milks moistened cake, Chantilly cream, cajeta, and fresh fruit, the cake is beyond delish and melts in your mouth!
Bloody Mary
El Jardin gives bloody mary lovers several options to choose from. The traditional Bloody Mary with vodka, a Bloody Maria with tequila or a Michelada with beer and Clamato. I decided to switch things up a bit and go for the Bloody Maria, but upgraded to mezcal since I’m not a huge fan of tequila.
If you go for the mezcal Bloody Maria, you won’t be disappointed! The house-made Bloody Mary mix with the added lemon juice makes for a very bright and fresh bloody mary. The cucumber and lemon notes will make you feel like you’re relaxing poolside at a spa as you soak in the rays peeking through the canopy above.
With all that citrus, somehow the smokiness and richness of the mezcal balance out the Bloody Maria perfectly and the simple garnish is a tasty and crisp treat! The best part is the bloody marys come in under $10, even with the mezcal upgrade!
El Jardin’s decor is full of vibrant colors and has a relaxed vibe that won’t make you feel rushed or crowded as many popular brunch places do. The affordable and delicious brunch and bloody marys won’t break the bank and leave your bellies happy and full. For 2 coffees, a lemonade, and upgraded bloody Maria, 2 entrees and a dessert, the total came under $50! In San Diego, that’s a great deal for brunch and bloody marys!
