For New Year's Eve, a few years ago my best friend Hayley had come into town and we rang in the new year at JRDN, the beachfront restaurant attached to the Tower23 Hotel. It was swanky, modern and best of all is steps away from the shores of Pacific Beach. Through subsequent marketing emails, I learned JRDN has an amazing weekend brunch and bloody marys, so you know that I had to get there!

Since New Year’s, I have been to JRDN several times for their brunch. Most recently, it was a stop on my bloody mary tour with Shelley, from The Drunken Tomato! JRDN's bloody just keeps getting better every time I go back!

The Tower23 bloody mary had a stunning presentation; glistening in the sunbeams on the oceanfront patio, It was almost too pretty to drink! JRDN infuses their vodka with jalapeños and cilantro. I personally love cilantro, it gives meals and drinks such a refreshing and floral taste, in the best way possible. The mix is made in-house with a mild flavor but has that last second kick from the jalapeño infusion and spices. The jalapeños gave the bloody a perfect amount of heat, making it drinkable for lovers of all spice-levels.

I would describe the mix as citrus forward, rather than sodium forward. One can really taste the fresh lime juice in the mix, which is perfect and light enough for a beach day! The Tower23 bloody mary also comes with a meal on a stick which included: pepper jack cheese, olives, salami, pepperoni, lime wedge and was topped off with an oh-so-savory bacon salt rim. Forget meal in a glass; the Tower23 bloody is sexy charcuterie in a glass.

JRDN is a great spot to meet with friends for brunch, bloodys, amazing oceans views, dinner, happy hour, or late night rendezvous. The bloody alone is worth going for! I would also note that the huevos rancheros were the very best I've had in San Diego, and that's saying a lot!
