Japanese-style Fried Chicken Delivered to Your Door
Tokyo Hot Chicken delivers on quality, flavor, and to your door
What’s all the rage lately? If you guessed hot chicken, then you’re right! Looking for a way to adapt to the current pandemic, Chef Michael Mina of the MINA Group decided to take a stab at hot chicken but with a Japanese twist. Offering Tokyo Hot Chicken for delivery-only, Tokyo Hot Chicken delivers on quality, flavor, and to your door. Here’s why I’ll be ordering Tokyo Hot Chicken again and again.
A variety of Japanese-inspired sauces
While the crispy and seasoned to perfection fried chicken its self may resemble American Nasvhville-style hot chicken, it is the variety of Japanese-inspired sauces that will have you salivating.
Something for everyone, the Japanese ingredients in the sauces range from spicy AF to more savory and umami sauces. Because the sauces are the most important component of Tokyo Hot Chicken, here is a breakdown of Tokyo Hot Chicken’s sauces starting with my favorite on the top.
Chuka Tare - soy, sesame, chili. What can I say, I am a sucker for ANYTHING that has soy and sesame with a little kick. I’m a salt and umami girl through and through. Hence the love for spicy bloody marys.
Yum Yum Sauce - kewpie, furikake. A perfect blend of sweetness, savory, with a little kick
Sweet Chili - garlic, red pepper. Damn good, damn hot
Siracha Aioli - my husbands favorite, along with the Yum Yum, a great option for the kiddos
Yuzu Kosho Honey - my least favorite, a little too sweet and tangy for me but my roommate loved it
Tokyo Secret Hot - Thai chili, yuzu. I LOVE yuzu but ya girl just couldn’t handle the make you sweat, take your breath away, intensity of this sauce. But…if you order your Asian food at a 10 when you dine out, this sauce is for you
The best part is, Tokyo Hot Chicken puts the sauces on the side so when your fried chicken is delivered to your door, it’s still crispy and fresh and you can try out different sauces. With takeout and food delivery, that’s been a pet peeve of mine, so I’m glad they leave them on the side and allow you to choose what sauces and how much sauce you want on your fried chicken!
Sides for days
Growing up, I always attended barbecues and cookouts for family and friend gatherings that had an absorbent amount of food. While I enjoyed a juicy burger off the grill or an occasional bbq chicken, if you looked at my plate, it would always be a mountain of sides!!! Sides have such a special place in my heart and honestly, vegetables and potatoes rain supreme in my tummy.
Tokyo Hot Chicken absolutely SLAYS the side game. Here’s my breakdown of the sides I got to try…..not in any order because I loved them all.
Kimchi Slaw - love the nostalgia of growing up in New England having coleslaw at every cookout or seafood restaurant but the cultural influences of Japan all in one bite
Red Miso Corn - like the slaw, corn on the cob was always a part of summer cookouts. Nostalgia mixed with the savory, slightly tangy, and cheesy corn bursts with flavor
Furikake Rice - the perfectly steamed white rice topped with the furikake and sesame, dipped in the Chuka Tare sauce, I could live off of just that for a very long time
Sesame Broccoli - okay, I lied. This IS my favorite side. Haters gonna hate, but I LOVE me some broccoli, especially when it’s perfectly crunchy and topped with black sesame seeds
Tokyo Hot Chickens sides are amazing and I look forward to trying their Wasabi Mashed Potatoes, Furikake French Fries, and Dash Braised Kale in the future!
Hand Held
You can order Tokyo Hot Chicken for delivery in the form of buckets (drums, wings, tenders) and boxes of tenders but my favorite is the Togarashi Chicken Snackers from the hand held menu.
Hot chicken sandwiches have several important components that make them delicious. The bun, the sauce, the chicken, and something crunchy. Tokyo Hot Chicken’s Togarashi Chicken Snackers deliver with a soft, buttery, grilled bun, spicy kewpie mayo, crisp and succulent fried chicken, and a must for me, a crunchy pickle. Not only my favorite but in my opinion, the best value on the menu.
Last but certainly not least, end your meal with a sweet treat. I’ve had everything but the kitchen sink bloody marys, but never an Everything But The Kitchen Sink Cookie! Do NOT order Tokyo Hot Chicken delivery without adding one of these bad boys to your cart! Sesame, coconut, chocolate chips, and walnut it is the perfect balance of sweet and savory.
The best part of Tokyo Hot Chicken delivery is that everything holds up really well. That way you don’t have to sacrifice quality and flavor just because you’re ordering takeout. You can order Tokyo Hot Chicken through DoorDash or directly from their site (delivery range for direct is 7 miles). Tokyo Hot Chicken Japanese-style fried chicken delivers on quality, flavor, and to your door.
Looking to make Tokyo Hot Chicken popup a permanent staple and eventually open a brick-and-mortar restaurant, I’d say Chef Michael Mina is definitely on that track with his blend of cultures and cuisines to combine for some really really great fried chicken and sides.
**Quick note for my bloody mary fans and historians. Not to take anything away from Michael Mina and his 40 successful restaurants including Tokyo Hot Chicken but did you know his wife is Diane of Diane’s Bloody Mary? I had no idea and learned that yesterday while speaking to the manager of International Smoke (where the popup is located). I haven’t actually got to taste the mix or meet Diane, but I’ve heard great things about it!
Maybe because I don’t get out much anymore due to Rona and I don’t have as many opportunities to connect with businesses and have one on one conversations like I used to, that little nugget really made my day! The bloody mary community once again comes full circle for me and I have to give thanks to the savory red cocktail that has brought so many opportunities and people into my life!
