Have you ever made a mistake in life? I’ve sure made plenty of them, but as a bloody mary connoisseur, I made the mistake of not putting Small Bar on my list for best bloody marys in San Diego for 2017!

People were outraged! Small Bar has some die-hard fans/customers and they certainly let me know I was missing them from my list! But I have a valid reason for my shortcomings! I hadn’t been to Small Bar yet! To keep the integrity of my blog, I could only speak on the bloodys I’ve tasted personally! I’m sure you’ll all be pleased to know that Small Bar’s Bloody Mary Superior IS one of the best bloody marys in San Diego!

Although Small Bar is, well….small, the Bloody Mary Superior is anything but! The Bloody Mary Superior makes a bold statement; served in Guinness 20oz gravity pint glass, rimmed with Tajin, the bloody mary has a dark and stormy color, with an abundance of spices showing through! Anytime you can see the spices, you know that the mix will be ambrosial; packed with flavor! The reason for the dark color is because the house-made mix has Guinness and Worcestershire sauce added. The richness of the stout beer and tang of the Worcestershire play a cat and mouse game with your taste buds. From an initial tang and bitterness that catches up to a salty and savory flavor. My favorite component of the bloody mary is the garlic and chili infused vodka. I actually put in my notes, "garlic on fleek". I am a garlic lover and the chili-garlic vodka was the perfect ending to a complex but balanced bloody mary.

Oh wait, did you think I forgot to mention the skewer? The Bloody Mary Superior comes with traditional toppings such as carrot, celery, pepperoncini, tomato, and pickled green beans and that's just getting started! Shrimp, a crispy thick piece of candied bacon, blue cheese stuffed olive, and a cornichon pickle finish the bloody mary with a bang! Y'all were right! It is one of the best!

I hope everyone will now be happy to know I've experienced Small Bar first-hand! The Bloody Mary Superior is one of the best in San Diego and they have a really great brunch that is yummy and inexpensive!
