In January of 2020 ten bloody mary experts from all across the United States convened in Los Angeles, CA for the 3rd Annual Drunken Tomato Awards! Veteran and new judges with returning and new brands helped determine the best bloody mary mixes in the world! This year boasted one of the most eclectic and high-scoring pack of entries to date, and after reviewing the winners, you’ll know exactly what new or established bloody mary mixes to look for in 2020.
Shelley Buchanan, the host, and founder of The Drunken Tomato continues to provide an opportunity to gather the bloody mary community together to determine the best bloody mary mixes in the world! The hard work and passion of the bloody mary brands who enter are celebrated while providing critical feedback and vital insights from the experts through an unbiased blind-tasting judging process.
The judges were tasked with tasting, testing, and judging bloody mary mixes from all over the world applying their expertise in the field of drinking bloody marys. Over 45 bloody mary mix companies entered and we welcomed our newest categories, unique and michelada creating a dynamic group of entries for 2020, winning Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum medals! I’m thrilled the 1,000+ bloody marys I’ve drunk have finally served their purpose. It’s a tough job, but as I always say, “someone has to do it”!
Selected as a team captain this year and 2nd year as resident DJ, I’ve come a long way from year 1 when I made it in as a judge last minute after another judge dropped out. #dreamsreallydocometrue. This year it was my job to make sure my team members were drinking and judging their bloody marys in a timely fashion and of course, making sure the playlist was lit! Roles which I took very seriously!
Every year the competition grows and every entrant is able to not only win a medal but is provided with vital feedback from the industry’s top bloody mary experts and influencers. The Drunken Tomato Awards Medal is a symbol of prestige and stature that can be used to market the mixes and attract consumers through credibility and visibility.
