One of my favorite bloody marys that I’ve ever had is the Ol’ Yellow Bloody Mary from a local San Diego restaurant. A fresh, made-from-scratch, yellow heirloom tomato bloody mary that is simple, crisp, and refreshing! As much as I love the Ol’ Yellow Bloody Mary, it comes with a $15 price tag, so it’s not exactly wallet-friendly to enjoy frequently.
Craving this yellow heirloom tomato bloody mary, I wanted to recreate one of my favorite bloody mary recipes at home, so I can enjoy it whenever and you can too! I don’t know the actual recipe the restaurant uses, so it simply served as inspiration for my recipe. I created the yellow heirloom tomato bloody mary recipe with minimal and fresh ingredients, so the brightness and the earthy sweetness of the heirloom tomatoes shine through.
Which heirloom tomatoes should I use?
For the fresh yellow heirloom tomato bloody mary use yellow heirloom tomatoes. You can find yellow heirloom tomatoes at your local grocery store or farmer’s market. When possible, making a tomato base from scratch try to pick out organic and the best looking and firm tomatoes, so you don’t have ones that have gone bad.
When are heirloom tomatoes in season?
The best time to find yellow or any heirloom tomatoes at the grocery store or local farmer’s market in the summer. Just like regular tomatoes, these heirlooms thrive in the summer. However, If you’re like me in live in SoCal, often Sprouts and Trader Joe’s have them year-round.
Should I use fresh herbs and seasonings?
Absolutely. This recipe will make the most beautifully fresh and elegant heirloom tomato juice and what better way to season it than with fresh and live herbs. If you only have dried herbs and spice, that’s okay too but the fresh horseradish, garlic, and herbs will take this bloody mary to the next level!
Is the fresh yellow heirloom tomato bloody mary vegetarian?
Yes, the fresh yellow heirloom tomato blood mary is vegetarian! The recipe is also vegan so you can serve this cocktail at any brunch and it will be fit and satisfy any guest! If you decide to share that is!!
Can I make extra and store the juice?
Yes, I encourage you to make extra because it is so good, I know you’ll want more! You can store the extra heirloom tomato juice in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
How easy is it to make the fresh yellow heirloom tomato bloody mary?
So easy! You can make this recipe in 20 minutes or less! However, you know I love a good stew when it comes to homemade bloody marys….so you can make the juice with the herbs and seasonings and let it sit overnight in the refrigerator! It only gets better with age……until you hit 7 days or so. Then it’s time to throw it out!
What kind of vodka should I use for the heirloom tomato bloody mary recipe?
To complement the exceptional flavor of the heirloom tomato bloody mary recipe I needed a quality vodka that would seamlessly blend with the mix for a smooth finish. PAU Maui Vodka, a platinum medal and consumer’s choice winning vodka at the 2019 SIP Awards was the perfect choice for this heirloom tomato bloody mary recipe. “Infinitely smooth and endlessly versatile,” I knew PAU Maui Vodka wouldn't compromise the integrity of these delicate and fresh heirloom bloody marys.
Masterfully handcrafted (like this cocktail) from up-country in Maui and distilled from pineapples, you can order PAU Maui Vodka online HERE or pick a bottle up at some of your favorite stores such as Target, Vons, Whole Foods, and BevMo!.

Notes:
Use yellow heirloom tomatoes for this recipe and pick the best looking and firm ones from the store. They are in season during the summer, some stores have them all year round. You can whip this up in 20 minutes or less but I recommend also making the juice with all the seasonings and letting it stew overnight in the refrigerator! Keep stored for up to 7 days in the refrigerator. This recipe is vegan and vegetarian. You can make this exact recipe with red heirlooms as well if you prefer a more meaty/savory bloody mary.
