I always love when new restaurants open up that I can add to my long list of "must try's" in San Diego! I swear, I could eat out 3 meals a day, 7 days a week for several years and still will not have tried every place in San Diego County! Because I don't have a clone and can only go so many places each week, I research as much as I can to find the best places to go for my readers!

The new restaurant in Ocean Beach, Royale! is a rebirth of husband and wife’s original concept, Royale with Cheese in Austin! I was fortunate to meet one of the owners, Mariah and learn more about how Royale! came about (read more about their story here). Typically, they are known for their hamburgers and cocktails, but they also have a great brunch; exactly why I was there!

Royale!'s vibe is retro and quirky, but still fresh and new. When I first walked up to Royale!, I was astonished by the bright and colorful mural that is painted on the entire side of the building by local artist Chris Konecki . As you step inside, you see another mural painted by nomadic artist Niky Roehreke, and you can't help but feel like grabbing a seat at the bar and hanging out for a while. Since the hubby doesn't drink, instead I chose a table in the back by the big open windows.

The Bloody Mary from Royale! is a tall glass of bubbly bloody indulgence. I knew with the first sip there was carbonation in the bloody mary. Royale! puts a dark Irish porter in the bloody that cuts the boldness and tang of the mix perfectly and brings a dark richness to the cocktail. The bloody mary is topped with an assortment of yummy pickled veggies, a lemon wedge from their family-owned organic hopyard and orchard (yes they own a family farm), a delicious mini grilled cheese and a pickle slice! Lastly, you get vodka and beer in this cocktail, so definitely #winning!

When it comes to the food there’s something for everyone, including the non-meat eaters! Whatever you order, you have to get their amazing tots to go with it! I don’t know what seasoning they use but it is freaking delicious!

I can easily see Royale! becoming one of the newest neighborhood hangouts for the OB and Point Loma communities. Whether it's late night, dinner, or weekend brunch, if you don’t live in that area it’s still totally worth stopping in! Good vibes, cool art, quirky decor, a simple but tasty menu that's locally owned, what else could you ask for?
