What do you do when you have an afternoon free and zero responsibilities? I’m talking laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning, meal prepping, errands all done? The answer: drink! It’s not often I get an afternoon off where I can indulge completely without feeling guilty about that stack of dishes or basket of laundry that needs to be done, so that’s exactly what I did.

I moseyed on over to Liberty Public Market, I had never been to the market portion! I passed all the cute shops and food for Mess Hall, where alcohol is available. I took a lonely seat at the bar (it was noon on a weekday) hoping to order The Market Mary. A gigantic bloody with an over the top garnish. Unfortunately, the Market Mary wasn’t available so I had to settle for a “regular” bloody mary. As I watched the bartender pour the New Amsterdam Vodka my eyes grew larger. He did not put one but a double shot of vodka in my cup. Mess Hall’s philosophy is we pour doubles, because “why not”, he stated. 

Lucky for me, the Market Mary was unavailable because the garnish would’ve been a distraction from the palatable bloody mary mix. Keeping with their craft cocktail theme, the mix is made in-house and fresh! The Bloody was fierce and citrusy from the olive brine and fresh lemon juice, instantly raising my blood pressure. The horseradish and Worcestershire made my sinuses tingle but balanced perfectly with the salt and acidity. Mess Hall adds A1 sauce to heighten the savory factor and some celery salt for added sodium intake. Although Tabasco sauce was an ingredient, the bloody was mildly tame. The bloody was garnished simply with three olives, lemon, and lime and the sun glistened over the bloody making it sparkle and shine! It may look simple, but the bloody is rich in flavor!

The best part of the bloody mary was that it was served in a plastic cup! That’s because you can take your libation and carry it around the market with you! So, you can sample all the food vendors and feel less sad about sitting alone at a bar, in the middle of the day, on a Tuesday.
