Fun fact about me: I was a vegetarian/pescatarian for 2 years! I wasn’t extremely hardcore about it if I’m being honest. I do know and understand the struggle when you’re looking for vegetarian or vegan options for your favorite food or drink!

Are all bloody mary mixes are vegan?

A lot of people assume because the base is tomato juice bloody marys must be vegan and vegetarian-friendly, right? Well, there’s one small ingredient in most bloody mary mixes that makes it neither vegetarian or vegan friendly and that’s Worcestershire sauce. That’s right, that hard to pronounce sauce, has fish in it. Being a pescatarian, Worcestershire was okay to drink in my bloody marys but if you’re a true vegetarian or vegan then you need a vegan mix! A great vegan mix on the market is Pope’s Kitchen Vegan Bloody Mary Mix.

Pope’s Kitchen Vegan Bloody Mary Mix wanted to focus on “clean, simple flavors of nature’s bounty,” so that’s exactly what inspired my created Vegan Garden Bloody Mary Recipe! Just a few herbs and veggies from the garden and your boozy vegan delight are ready to drink!

Founder of Pope’s Kitchen, Clark Pope set out on a mission to create and bring to market products made with the freshest ingredients and when possible, most local sources. You won’t be confused or tongue-tied by any of the ingredients on a Pope’s Kitchen label. Even though I’m not a vegetarian anymore I value the same mission as Clark!

What can you add to a vegan bloody mary?

You can add many many things to a vegan bloody mary to give it lots of flavor and dimension. For this vegan garden recipe I used just a few vegetables and herbs from the garden, but the possibilities are endless. Herbs, vinegar, soy sauce, hot sauces, infused spirits, and so on. How do I store the vegan bloody mary mix?

If you don’t use an entire bottle you can store the rest in the refrigerator for a week or 2. Sometimes, when you mix in herbs and then store it, after a few days it actually tastes better as the flavors infuse into the juice!
