Two of my favorite breakfast dishes have always been a solid breakfast sandwich and waffles (sorry pancakes). I combined my love of both to create these fun and yummy red waffle breakfast sandwiches!

With Valentine’s Day coming up, we all know the true way to someone’s heart is through their stomach, so what better way to say I love you than with these red waffle breakfast sandwiches served with breakfast in bed??

What is a red waffle breakfast sandwich?

These red waffle breakfast sandwiches are just that. A breakfast sandwich placed on red waffles. The waffles are regular waffles with red food coloring and not red velvet waffles, just for clarity.

How do you make the red waffle breakfast sandwich?

For the red waffle breakfast sandwich, as mentioned I used a premade waffle mix by Birch Benders! I simply added some red food coloring to turn them red! I also used a mini waffle maker instead of a large waffle maker to keep the sandwiches handheld.

Make sure you have the proper oil for the waffle mix. All I had was extra virgin olive oil, which the pre-made mix did not recommend. Follow your recipe or pre-made mix instructions for the proper oil suggestion!

For inside the sandwich you can add your typical breakfast sandwich ingredients: arugula, tomato, red onion, cheese, and bacon, and an egg. I also used this yummy tomato chutney recipe for the spread for an extra pop of sweet and savory flavor!

Make sure to serve these right away as waffles lose their heat right away. In my opinion, waffles don’t reheat well, so I would recommend eating them hot and ready!

What holidays can you serve the Red Waffle Breakfast Sandwich?

The red waffle breakfast sandwiches make a great breakfast in bed treat for your significant other on Valentine’s Day. However, they would make a great treat on Christmas or any day of the year, including holidays!

Are these red velvet waffles?

No, they are not red velvet waffles. You could totally make some red velvet waffles but you’ll need extra time and ingredients. As always, with my busy schedule, I used a pre-made waffle mix to keep this delicious and quick!

Can you cut the waffles into heart shapes?

Yes absolutely! For little extra love put into the red waffle breakfast sandwich, you can cut them into the shape of hearts. I struggled with this just because I used a mini waffle maker, so they were already small but if you have bigger waffles, heart shape away!

Are the red waffle breakfast sandwiches vegetarian?

If you remove the bacon, then the red waffle breakfast sandwiches are considered vegetarian but not vegan. If you’re looking for vegan, you’d be better suited just having the red waffles with some maple syrup!
