Snow? In March? That’s a hard pass! So when I hear my hometown in Massachusetts is getting 18 inches of snow in March I feel obligated to get out in the sunshine and explore the beautiful city I live in now! I mean, that’s why it’s so darn expensive to live in California, right? Don’t believe what they tell you, sunshine isn’t free guys!

Lately, I have been on a mission to explore north of San Diego along the coast. So, on a beautiful Saturday, I headed up to the coastal city of Oceanside, to Hello Betty Fish House. Located feet away from the Oceanside Pier, Hello Betty is the perfect choice for beach, breeze and bloodys!

The bloody mary at Hello Betty has been one of my favorites of 2018 so far! When I first sipped the bloody mary I said to my brunch date, “oooh wow that is savory”. If you’ve read any of my other blogs then you know I’m a savory and salty kind of gal, so the bloody immediately hit the spot! Betty's bloody mary mix is loaded with flavor and spices, especially celery seed and garlic and is light on the horseradish. Every morsel has an umami flavor that is rich, deep and elevates the warmth of the tomato juice. The bloody mary is not spicy, but sometimes that’s completely okay! The Hello Betty house-made bloody mary is topped off with New Amsterdam Vodka, a simple celery stalk, lemon wedge and a kosher salt rim!

To my delight, Hello Betty also has a great Michelada Mary! It’s like a michelada but a bloody mary! Or maybe the other way around! Made with Tecate beer, a house-made michelada mix, and Fugu Habanero Vodka, it is smooth, refreshing, and tasty. Typically, micheladas don’t contain beer and vodka so that’s what makes this yummy drink a michelada mary! The michelada is rimmed with Tajin and topped with a jumbo shrimp! So good! I also tried the oyster shooter with a spicy and salty bloody mary mix, vodka, and the oyster already in the shot glass! Defintely a new experience for me, but one I don't regret! Oh, and don't forget to order some fish tacos while you're there!!!

So while I may be paying an obnoxious amount for living in such a small space, I sipped my bloody mary and stared out into the beautiful ocean with the sun beating down on my face, without a worry in the world. I said to myself, “this sure beats 18 inches of snow”!
