Farm-to-table; if you’ve been reading for the past year, then you know how much that tickles my fancy! If not, now you know! I’m a local and sustainable loving kind of gal, so I was especially delighted to have brunch at Farmer’s Bottega in Mission Hills. A rustic-but-chic farm-to-table eatery, “locally sourced and crafted with love.” Swoooon!

When you walk into Farmer’s Bottega, the vibe is welcoming and comforting. It makes you feel as though you know everyone there, (even though you probably don’t); like a real neighborhood, Bottega should feel. I particularly love the green wall made out of old bottle crates and the back patio that has big trees decorated with romantic hanging lights. The decor is a conversation starter, but what will bring me back again is the breakfast and bloody marys!

“Some like it hot!” That’s exactly what the Farmer’s Bottega bloody mary delivers. Fresh jalapeños muddled into the mix with chili flakes will ignite your core and with each sip, your lips will tingle and burn. The beverage has some serious heat. I am always a fan of food that makes you feel something inside both literally and figuratively, and this locally sourced bloody mary certainly does that. Although spicy, the bloody mary has a delicate layer of tang and citrus from the additional fresh ingredients that cools and refreshes your heated palate. You can get this spicy libation in classic or Maria style, topped with Cajun shrimp or bacon!

Not only is the bloody mary delicious, but the food also has something to say too. Keeping it in the tomato family (because that’s just how I roll) I went with the heirloom tomato omelet; bell peppers, spinach, pesto, goat cheese, mozzarella, and basil) with the arugula-parmesan-truffle oil potatoes. So freaking yummy! My husband chose the brie and prosciutto omelet; sun-dried tomatoes, parmesan, and arugula. He raved with every bite!

If you’re looking for a lively but quaint, farm-to-table restaurant in a great neighborhood, then I highly recommend Farmer’s Bottega! They truly do craft their food and cocktails (especially the bloody mays) with love. Supporting local producers and businesses makes you leave feeling full and satisfied.
