Do you love the beach and bloody marys? Well, if you live in San Diego there is an abundance of places where you can get both! One of my favorite spots for both is Draft, in Mission Beach. Draft was one of the stops I chose for my Bloody Mary Tour of San Diego with Shelley, from The Drunken Tomato; their bloody mary is exceptional!

The Draft bloody mary is a thick consistency, bright red in color, and served in a mason jar. The plentiful spices are visible from the jar and I couldn’t wait to take a sip! On the first sip, my mouth was instantly greeted with a burst of flavor. Garlic and black pepper were prevalent from the spices and there is subtle horseradish, all that opened my airways. The thicker and saltier tomato base made this bloody rich and savory.

The wow factor in this bloody mary is the chile de arbol infused vodka. Chile de arbol peppers bring a perfect amount of heat (hotter than jalapenos but milder than cayenne) and have acidic properties that help balance out the cocktail. Chile de arbol peppers are grassy and nutty in flavor and have a searing heat that brings the house-made mix to life. I really appreciate the unique infusion of the Draft Bloody.

Topping off this Bloody Mary is a Baja meal on a stick. The meal includes a generous pepperoni slice, jalapeno, pickled carrot, pepper jack cheese, lime wedge and a kosher salt rim. The next best part besides the chile de arbol vodka? Make it a bloody chelada for only $2.00! You’ll get the cutest Dos Equis pony to go with it.

Draft was a great spot to end day one of our bloody mary tour of San Diego; ocean views, great people watching, 60 plus beers on tap, sports on all TVs (including their giant projector screen) and one of the best bloody marys in San Diego!
