In my last story, I told you all how I left the cold and icy winters of Minnesota behind for the sunshine and beaches of southern California, in San Diego. What I failed to mention was the epic trip of a lifetime my husband and I took to get from Minnesota to California!

Both loving to travel, explore, and the game of baseball we decided to stop at baseball stadiums across the country along the way. The baseball gods must have been shining on us that day, because it worked out perfectly that our stops in each city, the home team was playing! 9 games, 11 days, and 2600 miles!!!!

We started our journey in Minnesota attending a game with close friends and family and then hit the road for Milwaukee the next morning. The next day a short drive to Chicago where we hit both stadiums. Down to Saint Louis, over to Kansas City, then the long drive to Denver. Lastly, to Phoenix, and finally landing in San Diego to catch our new “home” team. I’ll just tell you the last two we did not make! After being in the car for 9 days, sore and exhausted we put the pedal to the metal for the 12-hour drive from Colorado to San Diego. Throughout the trip we were in separate cars so my husband thought of a cute and smart way we could keep in touch. He bought walkie-talkies where we radioed in to say hello and keep each other awake on those long and desolate spans, where cell service is non-existent. Really was quite romantic. We even carried a sign to each game about our adventure thinking we’d get our 15 minutes of fame, with maybe an interview from a sports network or something, but no such luck!

Since we went to two stadiums in Chicago and it’s such a great city, we stayed 3 days and two nights in this awesome AirBnB in the Wicker Park, a super cute and lively area. We tailgated for the White Sox game, saw the Bean and Millennial Park, window shopped in the stores on the Miracle Mile, got authentic deep dish pizza, and my favorite part, went to historic Wrigley Field for a Cubs game. Jake Arietta had pitched a no-hitter the night before so they had this pre-game ceremony/celebration that lit the entire stadium on-fire! Quite electric!

It was dreadfully hot and humid during our stay so after spending hours being tourists and walking for miles, we headed back to the Wicker Park area and decided to get some pizza and found Piece Pizzeria and Brewery. I got the menu and saw they had a bloody mary, and while all the house beers on tap sounded delicious, my inner tomato-loving self once again told me to go for it, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was cool and refreshing, just what I needed after all that walking.

The flavor was a tad spicy and peppery, but nothing that would make you perspire and the skewers were, well there wasn’t one. Just a lemon and lime wedge and an olive (on their website it looks like they've stepped up their bloody with skewers of sausage and cheeses). Just a simple and classic bloody. The mix was house-made and the rim was flavorful and salty! The place was hopping and the pizza was to freaking die for, so I highly recommend it. I don’t think their claim to fame is a bloody mary, so for being at a brewery and pizzeria where beer and dough is king, I think they have an excellent classic bloody!
