Have you ever tried something so fresh and tasty that you leave the restaurant feeling energized and refreshed? That’s how I feel every time I leave True Food Kitchen, located at Fashion Valley Mall, a fabulous open-air mall. So, naturally, I’ve stopped in True Food on several occasions with friends and my husband. I wasn’t aware they had brunch, so when I saw their sign outside advertising brunch, I was thrilled!

True Food Kitchen does their bloody mary the only way they know how; from scratch! The tomato juice isn’t from a can or jar, it is blended and made-to-order with organic tomatoes. There’s just something about fresh tomatoes in juices and sauces that tantalizes my taste buds. It was sweet, yet sour and had a deep earthy flavor. There’s no question where your food is coming from with this bloody mary.

Although the bloody mary was dark red in color, the house blend spices shined through and danced in the glass when I swiveled the straw. Cumin, celery salt, and garlic elevated the flavor and richness of the bloody, as those ingredients do to any dish. Then there was the fresh cucumber juice; it brings a lightness and clarity to the bloody that makes it smooth with every sip. The subtle citrus flavor from the freshly squeezed lime sealed the deal for me that this bloody was next-level. No need for a song a dance, there was no rim, and the garnish was a simple lime, cucumber, and olive. Simple ingredients yield an incredibly delicious bloody. Lastly, the bloody mary was topped off with organic vodka, another win for this from scratch bloody!

True Food Kitchen from-scratch bloody mary is “truly” exceptional. Not only is the bloody great, but the food is delectable. I’ve had several dishes of theirs that I often crave, and wish I could go back for more: winter squash toast, edamame dumplings, butternut squash flatbread, red chili noodles, teriyaki quinoa and spicy panang curry, just to name a few. If you’re in the area, shopping at Fashion Valley, or just want a "truly" healthy and delicious meal, I highly recommend True Food Kitchen.

P.S. A new location just opened up at UTC!
